How to create a move out and notify relevant utilities on an existing property
If your property management system is integrated with our portal, you should avoid adding data directly onto the Helpthemove portal. The information will be automatically pulled through to Helpthemove.
Start by checking if the property is already on your dashboard.
Here’s how to check:
- Type in the postcode or address.
- Click the magnifying glass icon or press enter to search.
- Pick the right property from the results (the house icon colour will fill in when selected).
If you can’t find the property, you may not have added it yet, so be sure to check out our FAQ guide: 'How do I manually add a property?' if you are unsure how to do this.
Select the property, click the Actions button, and choose ‘Move Out’ to begin the process.
Add the tenancy end date - just enter the last day of the tenancy or the upcoming end date, then hit 'Continue'.
Let us know if you’ve got the new move-in date - pick 'Yes' or 'No'.
If you choose ‘Yes’, add the move-in date and details for the new tenant, then continue with the next steps.
If you pick ‘No’, you’ll go straight to the next steps.
Decide who needs to be notified, tick the relevant boxes (council, energy, or water) and use the drop-down menus to select the right providers.

If you’ve ticked the boxes, some utility info will fill in automatically thanks to our integrations with council, water, and energy tools, saving you time.
If for whatever reason the system cannot locate these utilities automatically (perhaps the property is a new build, for example) you will be prompted to enter the details manually, so then you can add the utility details: pick the electricity supplier, enter the gas supplier if it’s different, or leave it blank if you’re not sure.
Choose the local authority from the drop-down menu, then select the water provider. If you need to, you can add a second provider (for example, for waste water).
Enter any meter readings and meter details you have.
Confirm if the property is furnished or unfurnished, select ‘No’ if it’s not furnished when it is empty.
Add the outgoing tenant’s details, make sure to update any other information you have.
Finish by clicking 'Complete', a pop-up will confirm that the move-out has been logged.
